Finally. Today I began “Phase Zero” of the EDGE Beta.
This first phase includes only a very small set of folks (ten of my alpha testers), basically just to make sure it installs fine and doesn’t crash outright on a range of devices. To make sure there isn’t anything obvious and bad going on that I should fix right away, before opening it up to more volunteers and delving into the meat of debugging flaws and tweaking the adventure.
Hopefully, about a week from now, the expanded Beta “Phase 1” will start. That will be the real thing, with a dozen or so additional testers. The more “accomplished” of these testers will continue through later phases focused on specific details, and I may add fresh testers as we go as well, once tweaks have been added and I feel I need a fresh perspective.
I’m crossing my fingers that the Beta goes smoothly and fairly quickly to a 1.0 release. I’d really like to get it out there very soon. There is still some question as to how far I’ll debug the World Builder, and whether I’ll go ahead and include that right away in the official release for registered players. I’d like to, but I think it might remain a bit rough around the edges, even after some serious debugging and cleaning time. Maybe I’ll just post a big Warning Window: “Not for the faint of heart” and go ahead. Maybe not. We’ll see.
In any case, I’m very excited to be at this point.
Freaking finally.
