Psyched. Finally made the plunge for portable power.
Got my 17” Intel-powered Mac Book Pro on order from Apple. Along with it, the $999 special on the Final Cut Studio bundle. I went to the Apple Store last week to test-drive the 17” and see if it “felt right” for my next Mac upgrade. Of course I left the store needing to have one. Geez. Like that wasn’t a no-brainer.
So I’ll soon have the ultimate in economy, portable, HD-ready filmmaking. I’ve already got the dinky Sony HC-1, which so far has been used only to document my excruciatingly-cute three-and-a-half-year-old daughters on insane volumes of DV tape. (39 tapes in standard definition DV at 90 minutes per tape, and we’re now up to hour #10 in HD.)
Shortly I’ll have the Final Cut-enabled uber Mac laptop, with portable editing and effects ready to go. Soundtrack for music tracks, Garage Band for building them. Motion for flying type. Compressor for building web-ready h.264 movies, DVD Studio for burning discs. When 3D is needed, reboot in Windows for Softimage XSI or Maya and probably a stray virus or two.
Anyway, I’m psyched. I’ve already got like a half-dozen short film ideas ready to go. And as soon as my shiny new laptop arrives, I can actually work on the scripts at Starbucks!
Oh yeeeeah. Mocha frappuccino cool, baby.
